Honda’s Groundbreaking Response To Coronavirus

January 16th, 2024 by

The outbreak of the coronavirus has impacted people, economies, corporations, and governments on a global scale. Here at Honda, we have gone above and beyond during this unprecedented event of uncertainty with our business practices. Honda has committed to real change in order address the safety and economic needs brought on by the onset of coronavirus. To show our support, we have provided resources for the healthcare industry, our outstanding customer base, our hard-working associates, and our overall community.

Honda has put forth every resource in order to ease the burden of the healthcare industry by providing personal protective equipment, hand sanitizer, ventilators, and transportation. In Ohio and Michigan, Honda has donated nearly 75% out of roughly 12,000 gallons of hand sanitizer produced through its partnership with general motors. The company has also engineered a state-of-the-art retrofitting system for the Honda Odyssey which allows for safe transportation of coronavirus patients while keeping the driver and passengers airflow systems completely separate among other things. Honda has also refitted many of its manufacturing lines to produce face shields and various parts exclusively for ventilators which has been distributed throughout the region to various health care providers.

Community support during this time has been essential for Honda, as many are experiencing dim economic prospects. Throughout the country, Honda has pledged over a million dollars in direct funds for food bank relief, as well as sponsoring various venues as socially distant food bank distribution centers. Honda has also partnered with 58 Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the country with widespread Covid19 relief initiatives and have been able to fund projects with redirected funds from cancelled events in 2020. Honda has also worked hard to spread the message of volunteerism. With a special fund-matching program, associates are encouraged to donate funds to local charities that Honda will match to support their communities.

Using social media, our extensive reach allows Honda to spread the message of safety and solidarity throughout the community. Honda has launched several campaigns across various platforms to support local medical staff including their #ThankAHealthcareHero initiative, which encourages people to offer their gratitude to frontline personnel. Honda has also started the “Power of Something Greater” marketing initiative to highlight the importance of uniting together to tackle recent challenges. Honda hopes that with spreading messages of hope and togetherness they can encourage people to come together in this great time of need.

Honda supports both its customers and associates directly by new company policies put in place to guarantee safety across the board. Masks and face coverings have been mandated across all Honda facilities for customers and associates alike, as well as temperature checks upon arrival. In-office personnel is limited to only the most essential tasks, and those who can remotely are encouraged to do so. Along with extended paid leave programs as well as new call centers to help employees navigate their benefit options, Honda has only the best interests of their employees at heart. For customers, depending on the location, Honda has offered deferred payment programs as well as delivery options for those who are not comfortable entering a dealership.

At Honda, we aim to keep everyone as safe as possible in this ever-changing situation.
